It goes without saying that these are times unlike anything else most of us have ever witnessed. The days have been long and often scary, but if nothing else, they’ve given us a healthy dose of perspective and put what’s really important at the forefront of our minds each and every day.

Here at The Everygirl, the core purpose of our job is to spread information to other women, and there’s never been a time that has come with more responsibility than now.

As we in the United States find ourselves more than a month into this unprecedented era of separation, anxiety, and fear, we want to first say thank you. Thank you to those on the frontlines, to all of the health care workers, to those sewing masks, to those stocking shelves and delivering food, to everyone staying home to slow the spread. We will get through this together.

Here, our team is sharing the ways we have have found to help others during the COVID-19 crisis. Whether it’s sending something to someone you love to lift their spirits or donating to a food bank, no act of kindness is too small, and every one is as worthwhile as the next.

As a Company

We are matching donations to Feeding America.

There has never been a better time to help our neighbors, friends, strangers, and loved ones—both near and far. The Everygirl cofounders, Alaina Kaczmarski and Danielle Moss, are honored to announce that we will be matching donations up to $5,000 to Feeding America and we hope you will join us by donating $1 to help us hit our goal of raising $10,000 from this wonderful community.

Together, we can support those who need us the most and do our part to ensure that families around the country are adequately fed during the COVID-19 crises that has left millions out of work and out of school. Every $1 donation to Feeding America provides 10 meals to children and families in need.

Send a meal to a healthcare worker on the frontlines in Chicago.

We also have donated $1,000 to Mott St. to help feed healthcare workers on the frontlines in Chicago. For as little as $15, you can send a meal to an individual working tirelessly to help those affected in our community. Donations go toward feeding healthcare workers, but also give employees of the restaurant an opportunity to earn a paycheck and support a small business (and one of our favorite restaurants in the city). A note of appreciation will be included to show support for the worker that your meal goes to.

Other Ways to Help

If you can, stay at home

Many are not able to stay at home, so for those of us that are, it’s imperative that we follow through. While social distancing is hard, it’s vital to keeping everyone safe and stopping the spread of COVID-19. Practice the social distancing measures that are recommended by your local government and be as cautious as your circumstances allow.

Wear a mask

Many towns and cities are issuing mask requirements. (For example, beginning in May, Illinois residents will be required to cover their faces while in public spaces.) Even if your city has no enforcements in place, wearing a mask while you’re out in public and are unable to maintain a 6 ft. distance from others can help stop the spread of COVID-19. Many companies are selling washable ones online, but you can also make yourself one at home.

Take care of yourself

Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations, and fear and anxiety can be a major part of dealing with COVID-19. Above all, make sure that you’re taking care of yourself and your mental health. It can be helpful to take a step back from the news and social media and to fit in exercise every day. Take time to talk to your loved ones and keep connected during this time.

The Disaster Distress Hotline can be reached at 1-800-985-5990, and the National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at 1-800-799-7233.

Support local businesses

Right now, local businesses need our support more than ever. If you’re able, order food from your favorite locally-owned restaurants, buy gift cards, and keep shopping local in mind. Small actions—like buying a gift card to your hairdresser to use once isolation is over or tipping a delivery driver a little extra—can make all the difference.

Donate supplies

Masks for Docs allows you to connect locally to healthcare workers in need of supplies and give back either by volunteering or donating anything from face shields to sewn masks to protective eyewear. Simply search your location to see how you can donate or get involved with volunteering whatever time you can.

Send a care package

Do you know a healthcare worker on the front lines? A friend or family member that has been laid off or furloughed? A homemade or custom care package can brighten spirits and make someone’s day—someone who might desperately need a spot of joy and self-care.

Schedule a blood donation

Due to blood drives being canceled because of social-distancing requirements, the American Red Cross is facing a blood shortage. Healthy individuals are encouraged to schedule an appointment to donate blood in a safe environment that’s compliant with COVID-19 safety measures.

Support Meals on Wheels

Given the risks that older individuals face when it comes to COVID-19, seniors need us now more than ever. Meals on Wheels delivers healthy, nutritious meals to the doors of seniors who are unable to get food without putting themselves at risk. You can find your local chapter to volunteer or make a donation, or donate to their national one.

Donate to animal shelters

Obviously, coronavirus posed a problem to animal shelters because volunteers can’t go tend to the animals every day because of social-distancing requirements. Thanks to dozens and dozens of people signing up to foster, dogs and cats are being safely cared for, even during times of social distancing. If you’re looking to help, consider fostering or adopting (protocols have been set up at many shelters os it’s still possible for people to adopt a new pet while distancing). You can also sponsor adoption fees or medical needs or donate supplies directly to the shelter or an Amazon Wish List.
