Prada is a brand that many love. Miuccia Prada has been around for almost 40 years creating product and collections that have been examined for their daring explorations of what fashion and luxury should be. An admirer of Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs, helped to bring artist collaborations to the forefront of luxury fashion in a more commerical sense, while Miuccia has tended to stay far away from the concept. At least until she brought Raf Simons, the Belgian fashion star, to co-design Prada with her. The Spring 2021 collection was the duo’s womenswear debut, but it was a bit of a slow start, at least collaboration wise. But I think this Fall 2021 menswear collection really picked up the pace for the duo. It allowed them to both dig deep into their archives, and give them new meaning, new fabrics, & new fabrications. And while many have said the collection presents nothing new for the brand, I don’t agree, and feel that getting mad about a Prada collection that references itself is strange. Miuccia Prada consistency references herself, and seeing as how Raf Simons is designing at Prada, why shouldn’t he reference himself as well?
